Val Mureșan is an entrepreneurial figure in Timișoara, Romania, known for his significant contributions to digitalization and smart city initiatives. As the personal advisor to the Mayor of Timișoara, Val plays a pivotal role in advancing the city’s digital infrastructure.
His early entrepreneurial achievements include co-founding the first R&D office of Movidius in Timișoara, which Intel later acquired. Movidius was renowned for its innovations in edge-AI, made significant strides with its Vision Processing Unit (VPU) and Neural Processing Unit (NPU) architectures, particularly in Movidius’ Myriad X processor, designed for high-performance AI tasks with low power consumption. Post-acquisition by Intel, Val continued to contribute as the country manager of Intel Romania, playing a crucial role in integrating and advancing Movidius’ technology within Intel’s product ecosystem, enhancing AI capabilities and driving innovation in edge computing, culminating with the recent launch of Intel’s Meteor Lake flagship processor.
Val has co-founded several key organizations that contribute to the cultural and economic vitality of the region, including the Banat IT Association, Community Foundation Timisoara, FABER cultural center, and Growceanu Angel Investors Club. And more recently, he con-founded the ABQ institute, an innovation and entrepreneurship hub that study the impact of deep technologies for the future of humanity. These initiatives demonstrate his commitment to nurturing the community, culture, innovation and economy of Timișoara, enriching the social and cultural fabric of the city.
